Digial video

Digital video has become so much easier and is now really doable in the classroom. My favourite cameras at the moment are the 'Flip' video cameras http://www.theflip.com/en-gb/ which are so easy to use. It's so easy to edit the footage using 'Windows Movie Maker'.
The latest camera I am looking at is this Kodak video camera .

Web 2.0 for teaching and learning

Generally I'm not a big fan of blogging as I'm a bit shy but I think it is a great way to motivate young people to write and share information for a real audience!

The phrase Web 2.0 refers to the perceived 'second generation' of web based communiites and services such as social networking sites, wikis, online applications etc which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users.

Online presentation tools:
My favourite websites at the moment:

  • 'Wordle' http://www.wordle.net/ allows you to paste in a paragraph of text and then create a 'Word cloud' (see above) in which the word repeated most is largest. As I'm a visual learner I really like this approach to text!
  • 'SlideShare' http://www.slideshare.net/ allows you to upload your PP presentations so you can access them anywhere you have Internet access and also you can add a voice over. It's also fascinating to have a look at other people's presentations about similar topics to you!
  • 'Voicethread' http://www.voicethread.com/ is a collaborative way to create digital presentations using images, text and sound.
  • 'Prezi' http://prezi.com/ is not for the fainthearted but it a pretty spectacular online zooming presentation tool.

Basic websites:

There are lots of ways to make your own website. The easiest way to get your information on the Internet is to use one of the free 'Blogging' tools. Some examples include:

Online collaboration:

If you want to collaborate with others on the Internet to share resources and ideas the best way is to create a 'Wiki' (a collaborative website that can be editied by anyone with access to it). An example is:

Social Bookmarking:

If you want to share and access your and other people's bookmarks online social bookmarking is for you.
